Module Objective
This course has been designed to enable participating candidates to:
• Understand the primary role of various business functions of an organization such as marketing, finance, operations and human resources, and their relationships with each other
• Gain knowledge on the three major pillars of strategic management framework
• Apply the theories and frameworks covered in the course to critically analyze an organization and comprehend why some firms have superior performance levels
• Develop a basic understanding of the strategic business environment in India and to some extent the rest of the world
Introduction to the Module
This course has been designed for undergraduate students. One of the central questions this course intends to address is why some firms have superior performance levels than their competitors. This question entails that candidates build on, integrate, and apply knowledge gained from varied sources, including knowledge gained in their disciplines, prior management courses and also the strategic management concepts and frameworks covered as part of the course. As such it is highly recommended to read varied material, in addition to what is given in the syllabus.
Pedagogy would be lecture as well as discussion based. Business cases would be used in order to combine theory and application. Classroom exercises would be done regularly to elicit active participation and discussion. The assessment plan has been designed to maximize student learning. Assessments would be conducted at regular intervals. Surprise quiz would also be conducted to ensure that students are regularly going through the concepts covered in the class. The group exercise at the end will require students to critically analyze a given organization using the concepts covered in the course. Students are welcome to apply additional insights, as deemed appropriate.
